Workplace Policies

Workplace Policies – Mavis Road Animal Clinic

At Mavis Road Animal Clinic, we are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional work environment for our team, our clients, and the animals entrusted to our care. The following policies outline our expectations and responsibilities to ensure the highest standards of safety, ethics, and service.

🛡 Health & Safety

We prioritize the prevention of occupational illness and injury, striving to maintain a safe and healthy work environment that meets or exceeds all legislative requirements.

Our commitment includes:

  • Protecting employees, visitors, and clients from illnesses, injuries, and hazards.

  • Preserving materials, assets, and the environment from risks such as fire, damage, or other losses.

  • Promoting collaboration between management and staff to ensure safety remains a shared responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Managers/Supervisors – Ensure safe working conditions are consistently maintained.

  • Employees – Work safely, follow safety guidelines, and report any unsafe or unhealthy conditions promptly.

We believe health and safety must be considered in every activity, and we will take every reasonable precaution to protect our team and visitors.

💊 Drug & Alcohol Policy

We are dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of our staff, clients, and the public. The use of illicit drugs, or the inappropriate use of alcohol, prescription medication, or other substances, can impair judgment and performance, creating safety risks.

Key points:

  • Employees will not be disciplined for requesting help with substance use issues or participating in rehabilitation programs.

  • However, impaired performance due to substance use may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

  • Requests for help after performance concerns arise will not prevent appropriate action from being taken.

Our goal is to maintain a workplace where safety and professional performance are never compromised.

⚠ Workplace Violence Policy

Violence of any kind will not be tolerated at Mavis Road Animal Clinic. This includes acts committed by or against employees, clients, or members of the public while on clinic premises or performing professional veterinary services at client locations.

Violence includes:

  • Physical assault

  • Threats of harm to people or property

  • Menacing or aggressive behavior

  • Displaying weapons or destroying property in a threatening way

Any violent act will be addressed immediately, and unlawful actions will be referred to law enforcement when necessary. We are committed to using all reasonable legal, managerial, and disciplinary measures to maintain a safe workplace.

🙅 Personal Harassment & Human Rights

All employees have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, free from harassment. Our clinic fosters an environment that supports productivity, personal growth, and self-esteem.

We do not condone any behavior that undermines work relationships or morale. This includes harassment based on:

  • Race
  • Ethnicity
  • Color
  • Religion
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Marital or family status
  • Disability

Such actions are prohibited under the Canadian Human Rights Act and will be addressed immediately.
